Kettering Flame Roast Wellingborough CC - 12.05.10

In KFCCs first home game of the season - infront of a healthy crowd - that being a crowd that had some numbers - rather than the members of the crowd being actually healthy - although saying that Mike York was there and he is well fit ...

Anyway herhermm ..

In KFCC first home gome of the season they faced what was widely anticipated to be a very stern test with the visitors being Wellingborough CC.

Skipper Buck won the toss and decided that after Week day 1's batting performance, he should once again look to pressurise the opposition with a daunting total to chase.

The opening bats and middle order once again did not disapoint Steve T and Chris "Howling sick" Murdoch oppened the batting and both scored quick runs - without either getting landmark scores, David Shelford went in when Steve fell, and he followed his previous weeks performance with another great knock of 66. Ash, Micky and finally JC all contributed good quick runs to the total, and just to ensure that the impetus stayed with the flames JC hit 10 off of the 2 balls that he faced to give the Flames a very healthy score of 173 - 4.

Wellingborough CC came out looking purposeful, and despite a rapid over from Herbert they were off to a good start hittting double figures at the end of over 1. after that though the bowling performance of the night from the Thorpedo - a performance that the Flames skipper was quoted as saying " was his best in a Flames shirt to date" and great support from Herbert left the opposition well short of the rate. PP had an over from the paviliion end before JC took two from the other - JC also bowling good fast lines and taking a wicket.

Skipper Buck took 1 wicket from the final 2 overs with a caught and bowled effort from the pavillion end, and Murdoch wrapped up the inings with a wicket and another Rogers catch to leave Wellingborough well short of their required target on 99 - 5 at the end of their innings.

A good game, played in good spirit and another great Flames performance.

Man of the match was always going to be between Shelford for his 66 and Thorpedo for his great 4 over spell, and this week it was too close to call as both of their performance helped shape the game.

Flames 100% record is maintained as they move into Game Week 3 - and face an away trip to Stumps CC.
