Back into Division one with a bump!

The Mobs lined up with a powerful batting line up, with genuine front line batsmen lining up from numbers one to nine in the batting order, namely messrs Sutherland, Knight, Thomas, Peleszok, Bolton, Cunningham, Paterson, Dorrington and Rolf, ably assisted by Mr Short and Mr Pearson Jnr.

The Mobs won the toss and elected to bat. The game start was delayed as Stumps pissed around scratching for a team, and the games "official" start time had well passed by the time the game got underway.

Suths and Milos got off to a good start, with Lee using the middle of his bat, whilst Miles thought it more fun to use the edges of his willow. Suths amassed 47 before realising he was a nearing jug buying score, so being the tight git he is he committed suicide and got himself stumped!

The happy and cheerful Tommo waltzed to the crease next, and played a couple of "attacking" shots, but mainly played second fiddle to Miles, who was now scoring runs at a quicker rate using the middle of his edge!

The innings closed at a competitive 187-1, and with the light dropping considerably a score that should be defended, despite the short boundaries and the slow lifeless matted wicket.

A quick turn around, and into the field.

Young Thomas Pearson was thrown the ball, and bowled well, and created a couple of chances unfortunately were not taken in the field. At the other end Shorty bowled well, and was helpless when the batsman decided to knock him out of the ground several times. It must be noted that none of the balls that got hit for six in the innings were actually bad deliveries, just good hitting from a quality batsman who had been dropped twice!

The skipper brought himself on to replace Shorty to try and stem the flow of runs, but the same fate awaited him - a barrage of sixes!!

Controversy then struck. Thomas bowled the batsman scoring all the runs, with a full toss. The batsman didn’t walk, and pleaded the umpire to no-ball the delivery, which after a long pause, he duly obliged. The fact the batsman was half way down the track and the ball was NOT above waist high was clearly irrelevant to the umpire, who buckled under the pressure from the batsman. After a few comments and exchanges play was resumed.

It got darker and darker, the batsmen had their eye in, and were up with the run rate. Fielding became a lottery, and the Mobs were getting grumpy!

Robin came into the attack to bring some experience and precision into the attack. Unfortunately, probably for the first time in his Mobs career, his bowling also took a battering.

By the last three/four overs it was dark, very dark. The batsmen were picking it, the fielders were not.

Bish, Bash, Bosh and defeat at the first attempt.
